Is This The Right Social Media Channel For My Brand?

Nowadays, it’s almost becoming the norm for new and trendy social media platforms to pop up on the app store every so often. While it might not be as revolutionary as how MySpace or Facebook was introduced, how people interact with social media and its landscape has been changing. You might know that you need to set up social accounts for your brand, but do you know why and how to select the right ones for your audience?

Must I be on all social media platforms?

It’s definitely not a necessity for you to be on ALL social platforms, but being on social media provides your brand with an online presence. If you don’t have at least one social account, you just might be missing out…

Before you decide on the platforms, here are a few things for you to consider:

  • What are my objectives for being on social media?
  • Do I have the capacity to maintain these platforms?
  • Is this platform able to best represent my brand’s needs?
  • Who are my primary target audiences?

OK, that’s done so how do I select the platforms?

Research! Explore how they work as social media platforms. Exposure to new and different channels gives you the knowledge and puts your marketing creativity to the test. With so many upcoming and trendy platforms like BeReal, Bondee, and Lemon8, the options are endless. Additionally, find out how users interact with one another. Put yourself in the shoes of your users and consider how you would want to interact with a brand.

Case Study Example

Let’s say my brand sells fruit juice boxes with no added sugar or preservatives. Aside from generating sales, my goal is to focus more on fostering relationships with my customer base, which ranges from 18 – 35 year olds. They’ll probably be purchasing it for themselves or for their kids. I also believe it’s always a fun time when you’re sipping ice cold juice out of a plastic straw – after all, you’re never too old for a juice box!

Here are the three platforms that I considered: Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.

Should I proceed with this platform?

From the chart I made, Instagram and TikTok seem to be more suitable for my juice box brand compared to LinkedIn, as their purpose, target audience and content that I can publish seem to be in line with my brand’s beliefs. Again, remember that you don’t have to be on all social media platforms. It might be more strategic to build depth than breadth!
